Genealogy or researching family history has become quite popular over the years, especially with records being available digitally via the Internet. Many people subscribe to genealogy websites to try their hand at finding their ancestors. This is usually good for finding a few family members but after a while, it can become frustrating trying to get the desired results from the site's search engines. Although many records do exist, they are difficult to find because they have been entered incorrectly or people's names have been recorded with strange spellings.
The other method of finding your family is to hire someone. Hiring a certified genealogist can result in good information but usually at a high price. (It should be noted that there is no legislation that requires genealogists to be certified.) Sarah is not a certified genealogist but she is a family history researcher. She has learned how to find the records she needs to locate missing ancestors.
"There are many different kinds of documents where your ancestors could be listed," Sarah says, "from birth, death and marriage records, to immigration and passenger lists, to census and voter's lists to church records to newspaper articles...there are so many ways to find a person. But what happens when that person isn't on any of these? That's when I need to get creative and use my detective skills to figure out where they're hiding. I can often find the missing person through other family members' records or get clues to where they might have been based on what was going on historically at that location."
Sarah has the patience, the persistence, the skill and the experience to hunt down those elusive family records. Then she'll show how these records tell the story of your ancestors and what life was like for them all those years ago.
Let Sarah find your family, you'll be amazed at what/who she will find!
